Summary
The Center for Cell and Gene Therapy provides an infrastructure to rapidly translate novel cell and gene therapy protocols from the laboratory to the clinic. Dr. Ann Leen, Dr. Juan Vera and their colleagues at the Center for Cell and Gene Therapy at Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children’s Hospital and Houston Methodist have developed a novel therapy for cancer patients that harnesses the patient’s own immune system to fight cancer in a natural way. The center houses two Good Manufacturing Practices facilities, a Quality Control Laboratory, and a Flow Cytometry Facility.

Indeed, Dr. Cliona Rooney genetically modified these T cells so they cannot be affected by the inhibitory TGFβ signals of the tumor environment in order to counter the tumors response against tumor-specific T cells.

Furthermore, Baylor College of Medicine is a health sciences university that creates knowledge and applies science and discoveries to further education, healthcare, and community service locally as well as globally.
